An American Idol-esque show for web 2.o startups.
The first daydream is credited to Muhammed Saleem.
I know there are plenty of web incubators – but wouldn’t it be great to take that incubation process, make it public and add a sense of competition by eliminating low performers every week?
1. Catch phrase: “You have been deleted.” (“You’re fired).
2. Judges: No shortage of abstract tech personalities to choose from.
- Playing the part of Simon (the critical judge): Loren Feldman, Mike Arrington, Jason Calacanis.
- As Paula Abdul (the likable judge): Robert Scoble, Chris Brogan, Loic Lemur.
- As Randy Jackson (industry wonk): Jeremiah Owyang, Seth Godin,
I think it could be a killer show. It wouldn’t even need to star “unknowns.” You could have Giga-Om, Venture Beat, and ReadWriteWeb compete as teams because these names would be completely new to most of the viewing audience.
New Business Model for Airline Industry
Flying is a horrible experience. It’s the only time when it’s okay to treat people like cow to be herded.
Thought: Talking on planes is a bit like talking on the elevator, a social faux-pax. What if an airline encouraged it? What if you could pay an extra-bit of cash and given X minutes to walk to the back of the plane, pick up the speaker and pitch the entire plane on something?
As I was flying back to San Francisco I wished I could just startup a group conversation, Bar-camp style. What if there was a barcamp airline?
Now first class isn’t just about those warm little towels, but also peace and quite.
So the airline is now making money on three ends.
1. Regular tickets to fly.
2. Speaking time on the flight
3. High-end tickets for people who want to drown out speaker time.
Dragonball-Dave
(Freshman year of college I was into Dragonball-Z)
While waiting in the Chicago O’Hare aiprot I became Dragonball-Dave.
Realizing my true power.
Love the new show but open it up to more people please. Auditions at barcamps, conferences, blogs and more. Pick the best and then we can vote via Twitter. Wait, Plurk. No Friendfeed. No ..,

Yes. It does seem like a *lot* of wasted social space. And don’t just do it on the plane, also in the waiting area. A whiteboard – virtual on the plane, physical at the gate – where you could write down what you wanted to talk about & thereby find others of like interests.
the seating assignments would have to be flexible though. and there are some discussions I would *not* want to have to overhear…
Anna
Brilliant!!!
Yes: Seating arrangements could reflect your interests.
You honed in on exactly the problem: It’s a LOT of wasted time. And potential.
Example: This week I’m going to start fundraising for the Spot.Us Election investigation (wiki.spot.us/election).
The best way to start (I figure): If I’m in front of a crowd – ask them “who here wants someone to fact check the political advertisements for this election.
Almost everyone, I’m sure, will raise there hand.
That’s a good place to start: That’s what I wanted to do on the plane. Let’s just guess there were 200 people on that plane. If only 10% or 20 people left donating $20 – that would be $400 or 16% of the total money needed.
Instead – I kept my mouth shut and watched the in-flight movie. Sigh.
