Last night I saw Talladega Nights, the new Will Farrell movie. Similar to his other movies, Farrell created a character that just makes you laugh out loud. Anchor man was a pretentious city jerk and this character Ricky Bobby, is a dumb cowboy.
But this post is really about one of the pre-movie advertisements. I still remember the days when a movie meant you were going to see previews and nothing more. It wasn’t too long ago that theaters started showing advertisements before the previews that are played before the movie. I personally am not a fan. What happened to simple banter before the previews.
In between the commercials for Cingular and the National Guard (I am still enthralled by army advertising) coke had a good commercial that has already made some buzz on the blog world.
A play off of Grand Theft Auto, the game that offends parent groups across the nation was hijacked and used to send a message of love and understanding, oh, and selling coke. It was a funny little ad. Made me chuckle. It felt just like the game, until the song about love came on and the main character started giving money away.
Does this mean I’m okay with advertisements before previews before movies? No. But if they are going to be there they might as well be clever like this one.
