The common stereotype says that women can’t drive. While perhaps they are bad at directions, there is
reason to believe that women are better race car drivers than their male counterparts at NASCAR. My cousin (a former race car driver) tells me this is because women have smaller feet. Yes, their feet size is what gives them the advantage.
I don’t claim to follow NASCAR or race car driving closely. I do know, however, that women have entered onto the scene recently and are making a big splash. It isn’t just because they are hot, they actually seem to excel at this whole race car driving thing.
While NASCAR, like most sports before it, is male dominated and probably will be for a little bit longer, there is reason to believe that this is a physical activity that could go to the girls one day. Just like basketball will always be easier for the average man (who are a few inches talker), women might be biologically more equipped to drive race cars than men. And I’m not talking about their breasts here.
When going into a turn, race car drivers have to perform a tricky maneuver using their feet. While going into a turn drivers press the brakes, shift gears and at the same time apply pressure to the gas. This way when they release the brake they can zoom right into the straightaway.
To do this drivers use their toes to press the brakes and their heel on the gas. At the appropriate time, they shift their toes away from the brakes and put their whole foot on the gas. The problem is, feet are clunky. They are not as easily controlled as hands, especially when you are focusing on the road which is moving around at 100 mph. Women have an advantage doing this move, their feet are smaller and less likely to trip up. The complex move needs to be done rapidly and executed perfectly. The physical characteristics of a women prove to be an asset yet again.
