1. The Guardian, one of the UK’s best newspapers, has decided to make the Web it’s first priority.
“We have come to one of those forks in the road that affect the direction of the entire newspaper industry….for a newspaper to say that the website comes first is a big, big step.”
My comment: Wow there Guardian, you do not determine the fate of the entire newspaper industry. I’ll admit, this is important, but calm down. Also, we all know this decision came from above your head. Murdoch (who owns you) is big into the net now. Have you seen how many MySpace friends this guy has?
2. Although they paid for the exclusive picture rights of Brad Pitt and Angelina with their baby, People magazine lost their scoop to bloggers.
My comment: Duh. Couldn’t see that one coming. I remember thinking the same thing when Vanity Fair unleashed their Deep Throat scoop on the web a good week or two before the print addition came out. I read the story three times when it finally made it to the stands. Hell if I’m going to pay good money to read it again. They scooped themselves. But if big magazines can get scooped on political (read – boring) news then anybody could see that the future is going to be tough for celebrity gossip magazines.
