What Web Terms Do You Hate?

I asked: "What terms do you DISLIKE the most?: user generated content, citizen journalism, social media. Or: Name your own hated word."

I think everyone has a term/word on the web that makes them cringe every time they hear it. This is probably natural. We are talking about such a young and powerful medium for which there was no descriptive language for it only 15 years ago.  The terms that are being constructed to define and organize the web are being invented in live time – through the internet which itself is a conversation.

What terms do you hate? Below are some of the responses received via Twitter.

  @Digidave UCG and CJ describe things people have always done, in fewer numbers, so new titles are silly. We are all sources.

  @digidave I love a response from a Nokia exec about UGC. toys: child-activated devices. cooking: home generated food.

  @digidave
i hate "content" the most bc it’s overused. tho i can’t think of an
alternative to sum up video, audio, text, photo. maybe "media"

  1. crowdsource
    anything 2.0
    ramp up
    long tail
    social media (as opposed to unsocial media?)

    There’s lots more…basically all buzzwords.
