Delicious Sucks and If They Don’t Respond – I Will Put Energy into Letting People Know How Sucky They Are

Update: Delicious has responded and deleted the extra Daily Blog Posting. Okay – they don’t get one big fat fail. The comment left by somebody from Delicious was descent, but still leaves me a little unhappy with the experience. Also got a good email from Scott Karp at Publish2.com about some of this. Maybe I’ll make a switch to using them as my default, right now I just use delicious out of habit… but habits are made to be broken. Moving on……. (read below for background).

I’ve never done the “rant about how bad a customer service experience is to see if somebody responds” post, but I’m going to. Right now.

Delicious – you absolutely suck!!!!!!

I’ve recommended your service in the past, even in consulting gigs. Yes, I’ve staked my professional reputation on your site and services, suggesting employers who want to be more “web-savvy” adopt it.

The Threat: Unless somebody responds to me, I will not only stop recommending your site, I’ll contact all the people I have recommended your service to in the past and let them know that in fact, your services suck. I don’t want people using your craptastical site on account of my recommendation, as you will no longer have my endorsement as a social news site.

The Problem: I’ve sent countless emails and posted half-a-dozen comments to your “help” section. So no, this isn’t brash or rushed. I’ve been complaining about your site for almost two months now (closer to three) and have seen NO action on your part.

Nor are my requests that outrageous.

1. Please enable the “delete” button that appears next to a daily blog posting within “my settings.”

I realize that your “daily blog posting” feature is an experiment. It doesn’t work much – and in frustration I created a second “daily blog posting.” Neither of them work, but on the random occasion that they do – I end up with TWO blog posts that are exactly the same. UGH!!!!!!

Are you trying to make me delete my entire Delicious account?

Please, please, please – let me delete the second of these automatic daily blog postings. The “delete” button is there just starring at me, I have no idea why, no matter how many times I click it, nothing happens.

This first issue is not a request, but a demand. If this issue isn’t fixed the threat above will be enacted. I simply don’t understand why anyone would use your service if you can’t get a freak’n “delete” button to work.

Problem #2: Please enable the “daily blog post” feature to work (you can see the root of the problem).

This request I am not as adamant about, because I realize you describe it as an “experimental feature.” Regardless, do you know how jealous and angry I get when I see every other blogger whose daily blog posting are working?

It’s incredibly frustrating. It doesn’t make me dislike them – it makes me dislike you, for what appears to be inconsistent and shoddy service.

Delicious – hear my cry for customer service. Somebody please freak’n respond to me!!!!!!!

I can’t believe I’ve actually had to resort to one of these blog posts – shame on you.

  1. Use Diigo – it does do daily blog postings. I have the service configured to store everything into Delicious as well. What I get is my bookmarks in two locations (obviously). Just remember to turn off the daily blog posting in Delicious and configure Friendfeed to import one or the other, not both.

You know, the group and collaborative notation features could be useful to journalists. Imagine creating a group for Bay Area journalists and being able to see each others notes on web pages. Or even your followers/readers being able to see them – another way journalists can improve the web.

It’s a valuable research tool. Although some people have complained about the look of the site and abundance of features. But, no service is perfect.

  2. I work on Delicious and am sorry about the trouble you have been having. We are indeed having trouble with our blog posting feature and it is a top priority that we are literally working on right now. We can’t just “turn off” the feature because it is actually working for many users. We’re doing our best to get this fixed ASAP.

I should also note that I don’t think you are accurate in claiming we have not been responsive. I see that you have been participating in an active thread in our forums regarding this issue, and we have in fact responded directly to your posts (see: http://support.delicious.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=359). You posted another message only two hours ago (see: http://support.delicious.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1215), but hopefully you’d agree it’s not unreasonable that we haven’t responded directly to that yet.

So in summary, we’re working actively on this problem, we’re going to get it fixed, and we are in fact listening and responding to user complaints and feedback. Thanks.

  3. Whoa. I’ve never seen the Cohn so worked up. I bet even the cat was scared. See what you did David, you scared your poor, defenseless little kitty. How dare the anger be let to go unchecked!

  4. Just when i noticed they are totally gone (1. miss i tollerated, second – WTF?, Third – ok, iam leavin…), i simply left delicious and exported my data into google bookmarks and with.
Theres no reason to stay there, this is not delicious…
