Video games are growing and sex sells. Put the two together and you have sex in a video game.
Naughty America, The Game will be launching on us this summer.
Sex and games are nothing new. Lately I’ve been conversing with a Canadian dancer who, in her spare time, likes to write about video games. Interesting indeed. With a little more background I’m hoping I’ll be able to write a story about her one day. Her blog is mostly a straight take on video games, but occasionally she discusses the area where sex and video games collide. Moreover, the angle she takes towards gaming, as a stripper, is fresh and enticing.
But this new Naughty America game looks to be like something of a different breed. Regina Lynn, sex columnist for Wired, touched on it recently, in a good post about sex and virtual worlds. But Lynn usually talks about cyber sex, where technology aids two real people in the act. This game takes it to a new level, where the game IS the act.
There are several types of geeks in this world. Some are bashful, unassuming and safe. They can help you with your computer, or give advice on what cell phone to buy. Others are sick pervs that stare at their computer while holding their penis. Yes, they invented the internet (well porn invented the internet) but that doesn’t make them ‘good’ people. I think we all know which kind of geek this game is geared towards.
I’m definitely going to keep my eye on this. I wonder what issues will be raised. The game makers seem to think its an avenue towards real sex — avatars will decide to meet in person and get it on. But what if you like the avatar better? Isn’t that a potential let down.
My guess is, you are playing the game for a reason — you are a dog and can’t get any. If you are on the lookout for other dogs, then by all means, play the game. Turn yourself into that 6’4 blond cartoon avatar with a chisled body. Maybe it will raise your self-esteem when you get some as a cartoon. But don’t let this game take over your sexual life.
You know you are in trouble when the best sex you’ve had is considered one step below cyber-sex.
Thanks for the mention, Dave.
