A magazine that celebrates life through death: Obit Magazine
A friend of mine has been working on this startup for the last, hmmm, maybe four months.
It looks like a fun project to be a part of. Obit writing is a fine art. You want to be fair (if the person who died was controversial, you have to add it), but you don’t want to disrespect someone who just died.
The idea of the magazine in general is pretty interesting. "Obit
celebrates life through lives well lived."
I’ll be curious to see what the final product is like.
In somewhat related news, today I mourn the loss of A9’s maps.
A buddy of mine in college played an integral part of creating these maps. He spent one summer ridding around with a GPS device on a car getting video of streets. I blogged about it at LiveDigitally at the time.
Here is a moral question for my readers (mom, dad): Do I tell my friend about the death of this project, to which he dedicated a long and arduous summer. Or, do I keep it to myself, only to act shocked and surprised when he breaks the news to me.
Pontificate please.
Shame about those maps. Anyway, I say you tell him. He’s a big boy, and he can take it. Would you rather have him read about it in Obit?
It’s the only American job that fool has ever held down…and it was all for none!?!
Shit, he ain’t ever coming back.
