I’ve been busy. And that’s what this post is about.
- NewAssignment Launches out of beta in less than two weeks.
- I have a new semi-job. I am a Netscape Navigator.
- School —- They haven’t kicked me out yet.
So lets get to the new job first — read below the jump.
Some will recognize the image to the right.
Mickey has been my icon at Digg since, well, since I started on Digg
over a year ago. I just picked a random image and it stuck. Well,
Digidave will remain on Digg. But I’ve been less active there in the
last two weeks.
No, I haven’t given up on social bookmarking. In fact, I’m more into it
as an idea and I believe strongly it is a practice that will become increasingly important in
the future. And taking that to heart, I’ve begun doing it for
Netscape….for money.
I for one welcome my new Netscape overlords.
What does this mean? Almost nothing. I’ll still be browsing the Web as
I always have. But instead of submitting the gold nuggets of info that
I find to Digg, I will submit them to Netscape.
Will you still be on Digg?
Yes, but not in the same fashion. Netscape will be where I submit first —
always. I will submit stories to Digg the next day or later, if I have
time to Digg at all. This is essentially the service that Netscape pays me for — they are my go-to bookmarking service.
Well, that’s a harsh way to put it, get of my blog you damn kids.
But the real answer is no! I am not doing this behind anyone’s back. It
is out in the open. Contracts were signed, AIM conversations back and
forth — this is work, not exploitation. I will continue to be the same
Digidave, just with a new icon (see right) on a new social news service.
Why the switch?
It was time. I’ve been on Digg for a long time. I’m proud to say that
to date I am 38th on the active Digger list with 201 front page stories
(and a FP percentage rate of 33 percent). But changes have been going
on at Digg since the day I got there. The community I came to love has
changed three times over. Lately Digg has been a breeding ground for
organized mobs to try and have ideological battles over stuff I don’t
care about. I’m ready to give another service a try — and Netscape has
done a wonderful job of making me feel at home (I recognize names left
and right) and a valuable member of a smaller community (again). Digg
was just getting too chaotic. I like to blaze trails, not stand in the
smoke.
So that’s it for this post. There is plenty to write about — but most of that happens at NewAssignment.Net. This remains my personal blog until further notice. One day it may morph into more of a work space. But for the time being — Onward.
