Digg, Reddit, Propeller, StumbleUpon, Mixx, Newsvine…you name it. If you are on these sites, then this is a place for you.
In the wake of the Digg fiasco about two weeks ago, I thought what this growing community needed was a space to communicate that didn’t involve voting. After two days of pushing the site, we have 60 members – and growing.
What I Do Want to see on this site.
- Open communication
- To see old friends on the site and make new ones.
- Equal ownership between all who join – everyone can blog, start their own group, etc.
- A way to discuss issues as a group, not just one-on-one IM’s
- To be intrigued by the conversation that ensues.
- Diggers, Reddites, Stumblers, Mixxers and more, hand-in-hand singing kumbaya (it can happen).
What I Don’t Want
- To have it labeled "my site" (if I could get rid of that picture in the corner I would).
- For it to become a space only about getting more votes.
- For this just to be a place for "top diggers" – or "frequent users." It’s for everyone who participates in these sites.
- To make any money off the site (the adverts you see are from Ning, for providing the free service).
We make these sites tick, we deserve to have communication between each other. Now is our chance.
I was really wondering about the ads – and clicking on them to help you. Now that I know that they don’t even belong to you, I am not sure I’ll still click. There is nothing wrong with a blogger trying to make revenue from his site/idea – I just don’t like services that are “apparently free” if you know what I mean. But this is just me. From now on I’ll be following your footsteps here too. π
