Sometimes I think I worry too much about personal brand. I find personal branding on the web abnoxious at times. But I believe very strongly it’s something journalists need to do now. Amy has some good thoughts about something that I go back and forth on.

Not the one organized by Michael Stoll – but also in SF. Funny. I wonder if the two organizations know about each other. I’d like to work with both.

I can’t say enough good things about Barry Bearak. He was my favorite prof. at Columbia. I remain concerned. I know he will be released safely – but I can’t stand to picture him in a cold cell. He is a warm heart. Good person, father-like teacher.
Dave — Yes, I found publicpress.org years ago, before they launched, when I was shopping for URLs. Russell Okamoto in Beaverton, Ore., is a quite idealistic and skilled programmer. We talked about his citizen journalism venture back in 2005, before anyone used the term. His site is not based in San Francisco, however. It has one node that is focused here, but the site has many other city nodes, and actually attempts to cover the entire Earth. We’ve talked about working together, though the Public Press being organized in San Francisco is primarily about professional journalism, so at least for the moment there doesn’t seem to be a way to make these two concepts work seamlessly together. — Michael
