Busy Bee

Observant readers will be confused. Why is the category of this post “science” and the title “Busy Bee”?

I started my new job at Seed Magazine. It’s technically an internship (I am after all, a professional intern), but I’m treated like a staff writer. It’s my third day and tomorrow my second story is coming out. I’m expected to pump out short news pieces and occasional feature stories fairly often.

This means I have a bit of catch-up to do in the science world. Problem is, I have a bit of catch up to do with school work too. My “Beat Note” is due next week, which means I should have interviewed almost two dozen people and come up with 6-10 story ideas planned out. In short, I’m not partying this weekend.

I also have to do an event story, so I’m checking out New York City’s  swap-o-rama. Funny enough, I noticed that this was covered by Plenty magazine two issues ago. (Don’t forget to check out the February/March issue of Plenty for my story on high altitude wind energy.

As for Seed, yes it keeps me busy, but so far I enjoy it. It is the youngest atmosphere I’ve ever worked in. For the last year and a half, being an intern made me the baby at the work place, but now I don’t see my age showing as much. I’m excited to do less tech writing and more science stuff. But it will probably slow down my freelancing.

But enough about me, what people really want is a general topic to discuss, and so I go to the next post.
